Fire Brigade Visit

Fire Brigade Visit

The children were very excited to have our local fire station visit our school. We had great fun learning about how to respond to a fire, how to prevent fires from happening and how to keep ourselves safe. Some students and teachers got to try on the fire suits, which are not easy to wear.

We would like to thank everyone at Carnew Fire Brigade for a lovely, fun educational morning.

Baking Fun

Baking Fun

We had great fun baking apple crumble with tasty apples grown in our school garden. Thank you very much to Mrs. O’Driscoll and the senior pupils who planned and prepared the tasty treats. The apple crumble was delicious. What a wonderful treat to celebrate Well-being Wednesday!

Friendship Week

Friendship Week

This week we celebrate ‘Friendship Week’. The pupils will participate in a variety of projects to learn about the importance of friendship. It has been a busy and enjoyable start to the week. On Monday we enjoyed interviewing our friends and reporting to the school. On Tuesday we designed posters on the theme, and identified the ingredients for friendship. We listened to an interesting assembly about apples. We explored how apples are a great example of friendship and remind us how we can grow and develop. On Wednesday we played lego together with our friends and we wrote fantastic acrostic poetry.

Well done to the staff and pupils on their amazing work. We are very proud of our school. 🙂

Pottery Workshop

Pottery Workshop

We were delighted to welcome Christien van Bussel to All Saints’ on Monday 19th September. Christien created and designed beautiful pottery tiles with the pupils. The pottery workshop is part of our Creative Arts project funded by the Arts Council of Ireland. We are delighted to participate in the project. Christien will return to school next month to paint the tiles. We look forward to seeing the finished project on the walls of our playground.

Roald Dahl Day

Roald Dahl Day

We celebrated the life of Roald Dahl on Wednesday 13th September.

Mrs. Kenny organised an interesting assembly to teach us about the famous author.

The children learned some interesting Roald Dahl facts.
– Roald Dahl was a fighter pilot in World War II.
– Quentin Blake illustrated his stories for publication.
– He wrote many of his stories from a shed in his garden.
– He was born in Wales on 13th September 1916.
– Roald Dahl wrote 49 books for publication in his lifetime.

We read some of Roald Dahl’s stories together and designed a new character for his books.

Well-being Wednesdays

Well-being Wednesdays

We were delighted to receive an ‘Amber Flag’ from Pieta House in recognition of our collaborative efforts to promote positive mental health. Last year, we introduced Well-being Wednesdays. Following on from the success of the initiative, we look forward to continuing this wonderful work this year.

The pupils in the junior and senior classrooms joined together to play board games. It was great fun. We decided to create our own board games with a focus on well-being.

We also enjoyed buddy reading. The pupils selected stories to read together. They spoke about characters and identified the setting of the stories.

The children also created their own dream jars. It was great fun. It has been a really enjoyable start to the school year.

End of Year Celebration & Graduation

End of Year Celebration & Graduation

Today we celebrated our summer holidays with a visit to Carnew playground. We enjoyed an ice-cream cone on our way back to school. It was a lovely way to end the school year. We welcomed families and friends to join with us to celebrate a fantastic year of learning, initiatives and fun along the way. We raised our Amber Flag in acknowledgement of the wonderful work undertaken in recent years to promote and highlight positive mental health and wellbeing.

Today we said goodbye to our wonderful 6th Class pupils. We are incredibly proud of the talented and kind young people they are today. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow and flourish over the years. They should be proud of all they have accomplished during their time in primary school. We wish to thank our 6th Class pupils and families for their support and kindness throughout their time in All Saints’ National School. Our thoughts and prayers are with the pupils as they prepare to commence an exciting new chapter. Wishing you every success and happiness.
